At WVUH, we believe that Onboarding is a process, not just an event. Our intent is to have each new employee:
In an effort to improve the first and lasting impression that our new employees have of WVUH, we have completely redesigned our orientation process. We want to engage new employees immediately, reinforce that they have made the right decision by joining us, and emphasize that they can make a difference at WVUH.
We have transformed New Employee Orientation (NEO) from a one day event to a more meaningful nine month experience where we support the new employee with just in time learning, the tools that they need to be successful, and more engagement in a culture that emphasizes that our patients are the first priority in everything we do.
One of the unique features of this new process includes identifying an Onboarding Coordinator whom they can contact to get all their questions answered. This new onboarding role will allow a new employee to have one point of contact for concerns and questions.
Each new employee participates in two tightly focused sessions. The first full day orientation (required) is their first day on the job and a second one hour session (required) follows within 30 days of their employment date.
Onboarding is a contemporary approach that goes beyond the first day of work by using different methods of learning, continuing the orientation process beyond the first work week, and capitalizing on relationship building to accelerate job satisfaction. To support the process, we are building a website designed specifically and exclusively for our new employees. This site will provide access to everything from downloads of the WVU Fight Song to an online medical terminology class.
At WVUH, we understand that our success relies on our employees and we want our employees to feel valued, supported, and prepared for the role they play in the care of our patients.
