When a patient arrives with stroke symptoms, any time of the day or night,
WVU Hospitals immediately activates its top-ranked Stroke Center team. The
team includes 30 members with a range of medical expertise.With state-of-the-art
diagnostic tools and advanced treatments for dissolving or removing blood clots in
the brain, WVU physicians can save lives that would be lost, and often can preserve
healthy function in patients who would have been disabled.
- Warning signs of stroke appear suddenly:
- feel numb or weak on one side of body or face
- can’t understand or talk clearly
- can’t see very well in one or both eyes
- can’t walk very well, feel dizzy or fall
- very bad headache
Do not ignore symptoms. Some people may have only one or two, other people may have more.
