A Day of Giving thank you message from Amy L. Bush-Marone, COO, WVU Medicine Children’s

The following is a thank you message from Amy L. Bush-Marone, Chief Operating Officer at WVU Medicine Children’s, about the WVU Medicine Children's Day of Giving on Wednesday, Nov. 13:

Many of you have heard the news but it bears repeating:

During our Nov. 13 Mediathon, a highlight of WVU’s third annual Day of Giving, we raised $1,231,305 through 326 gifts. WVU Medicine Children’s was the third-leading money-raiser within WVU, and it ranked fourth in the number of gifts received.

Although the idea of taking our message to television this year, via our partnership with Nexstar and a mediathon, was not a radically new concept, it was something we had not undertaken in years. A production of this size takes considerable teamwork and logistical maneuvering, but I couldn’t be more pleased with the way things turned out. The results speak for themselves and, behind the scenes, the production was first-class and reflected well on our staff and institution overall.

I thank each and every one of our employees who were part of the behind-the-scenes work, and the employees, patients, and their families who took the time to speak to the entire state on camera about the level of care delivered here and what a new hospital will mean for thousands of families each year. We see and are part of miracles every day here. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to share these stories with so many others, and I’m grateful that we have so many willing and enthusiastic spokespeople. Even better news about the mediathon? This is just the start.

Also, I’d like to thank the great number of employees who continue to recognize and support our needs. So many individuals, departments, and units stepped up with monetary donations to make this a truly special day. Without you, we would have no chance of achieving our goals. It’s overwhelming and humbling to be part of such a team and such an effort.

The quality of our staff extends well beyond this day. When I think about the game-changing $1 million gift we received from United Bank, and some of the incredibly generous gifts we have received from individuals, it really reflects on the quality of care we deliver here. We have the awesome responsibility of elevating the health of the entire state. People look to us for miracles. By earning a reputation of delivering the highest quality care possible, we have also earned the trust of the top voices and leaders in the state. Their trust in us and their faith in us help take us where we need to go. Our employees are at the core of everything we do, and our performance, in every role, makes us who we are – the state’s destination for the best care possible. Clearly, without our employees, we would not have the reputation we have and, in turn, would not be able to attract the support outside the institution that we are blessed to have.

Thank you, again, for continuing to push us closer to our goals and our dreams!
