Health department to hold free community COVID-19 testing at WVU Rec Center

In conjunction with the University and the West Virginia National Guard, the Monongalia County Health Department will hold free community COVID-19 testing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday (Sept. 18) at WVU Student Rec Center.

This testing site will be walk-in only and individuals will undergo nasal swab tests that will be processed by Q-Labs. Everyone should wear a mask and practice social distancing.

This testing is available to all individuals in Monongalia County and it is not necessary to have COVID-19 symptoms to get tested; however, symptoms can include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat new loss of taste and/or smell and congestion or runny nose. 

Proof of insurance is not required, and attendees should bring identification, such as a driver’s license or proof of address, to help in returning test results. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal

All positive cases, including results from third-parties outside the WVU testing system, must be reported to the University. Students should notify the WVU CARE Team, and employees should notify WVU Medical Management. 

All positive results reported to WVU are sent directly to the state.
