Our Power

Lots of people are very worried about covid-19 and the potential impact of this pandemic on our world as we know it.

Like heroes, we are facing a dark night. The infection is spreading quickly. We have no host immunity. There seems to be little we can do to fight this invading infection.

Or is there?

Like the heroes we are, we dig deep. We find our our power.

Our power of choice. Choosing to stand together as a strong and proud nation. Spiritually arm in arm, but aware that if we take away the source of the viruses power, we can stop it from spreading.

How can we do this?

By voluntarily socially distancing.

If 75% of the people in every community shelter in place in their homes, we markedly slow down the virus progression. We flatten the curve. We don’t overwhelm our healthcare workers and infrastructure. We survive.

If we take it further, so that 87.5% of Americans socially distance in our homes, we completely flatten the curve and stop the virus. The tsunami wave is reduced to a stream. We defeat the virus. We thrive.

What other power do we have to stop the virus in its tracks?

We can block it from gaining access to its life source. Us.

Good hand hygiene and avoiding touching your face, mouth, nose or eyes. Standing 6 feet away from each other and avoiding those coughing or sneezing. If you are sick, stay away from those that are not. The virus flourishes in the first part of its infection, where those infected don’t even know that they have the virus in them. Droplets of the virus may stick around, waiting for us to pick it up on our hands and introduce it to our own bodies. That is how it spreads.

We can defeat it. We can win.

We start to understand that the virus that threatens us may give us a unique opportunity to change.

We have become confused and have forgotten. Forgotten that we have survived and thrived TOGETHER. Like systems of nature, we do better by COOPERATING than COMPETING.

This is a real opportunity for us to rediscover that we are indeed very powerful beings having a human experience. Let’s use our power together and not only survive, but thrive in this time.

Here is a beautiful poem my wife sent me that captures what is in my heart.

And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed. ~Kitty O'Meara

Together. Powerful.

Almost heaven.
