Public Health student to visit research sites in rural India with support from travel award

Each year, the West Virginia University Health Sciences Global Engagement Office offers students a unique opportunity to travel across the globe to experience health around the world with the help of the Nancy Sanders Memorial Student Study Abroad Travel Award. Public Health undergraduate student Jeevan Murthy was among the recipients this year.

Although he hasn’t formalized his plans yet, Murthy will be traveling to India in June 2020. The trip will give Murthy the opportunity to visit research sites associated with a project he assisted on with Department of Social & Behavioral Sciences Professor Ranjita Misra, PhD. Named the SEVAK project, the study focuses on addressing healthcare needs in rural India.

The competitive study aboard award is aimed at supporting students and faculty in creating long-term, self-sustaining global activities and participating in globally focused filed placements or community-based research projects.
