School of Dentistry endodontics expert educates international practitioners

The Chair of the Department Endodontics at West Virginia University School of Dentistry served as a keynote speaker at a conference for dental professionals in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Asian Pacific Endodontic Confederation (APEC) held its 20th Scientific Congress in April in conjunction with the 14th International Congress of Turkish Endodontic Society.

Samuel Dorn, who holds his doctorate in dental surgery and is an endodontic specialist, presented “Extract-Replantation: Another Surgical Technique” at the three-day scientific program.

“It was a pleasure and an honor to be invited to speak a seventh time at this meeting. Other meetings have been in India, Korea, Jordan, Japan, Australia and Malaysia,” Dorn said.

The event is designed to bring together and promote an international exchange of the latest concepts, innovative techniques and development ideas in the field of endodontics.

Participants at the “Contemporary Endodontics: a new Era” themed conference could interact with more than two dozen distinguished medical professionals and researchers.

Dorn addressed extracting a tooth, correcting the problem and replacing the tooth in the socket. He also discussed the various materials available to repair the tooth either apically or laterally and the evidence based literature involved in the treatment decision making.

“I find it exciting and educational to exchange ideas with endodontists in other countries. I have been lucky to be invited to dental schools to see how they apply teaching methods. The world is getting smaller and we can learn much from other cultures,” he said.

The WVU dental school professor and department chair also serves as a councilor of APEC representing the American Association of Endodontists.

Dorn joined the WVU dental school in January 2019.
