WVU Nursing faculty presents poster during SUD conference
During the conference “Building a Healthier Appalachia: Collaborative Solutions to Substance Use Disorders Across the Region,” West Virginia University School of Nursing faculty member Dr. Kendra Barker presented a poster focused on how advanced practice nurses can help patients with substance use disorder.
Barker, who serves as Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program Director and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Track Coordinator, presented “An Educational Initiative for APRNs May Help Build Health Equity for Patients with SUD.” The research was also supported by Dr. Toni Dichiacchio and Dr. Billie Vance.
The research concluded that initiatives to increase training for APRNs to prescribe medications for opioid use disorder may help build health equity for patients experiencing SUD.
