FAQs for Website Content Migration and Updates

How did you decide which websites to update first?

Sites that are housed under the health.wvu.edu umbrella were the first to be moved into the updated, modern, cloud-based Content Management System (CMS) called Umbraco. Because Health Sciences represents the Academic Medical Center campus, leadership chose these sites to be updated first.

If you move my content, is anything lost/unretrievable?

The Health Sciences Communications-Digital team will retain a copy of old content for a limited period of time. Because our websites are moving from a server-based system to the Cloud, once all sites are migrated, the servers will be decommissioned.

What happens if I don’t like the changes?

Health Sciences websites follow WVU’s brand visual identity and website standards. Content has been optimized for digital best practices and for AI search. We can work with you to create content that meets those standards and requirements.

What happens if there’s an error in my content?

Website updates, errors, and edits can be submitted through the forms on the Health Sciences Website Support page.

What happens if our Directory is outdated?

Directory content updates, errors, and edits can be submitted through the forms on the Health Sciences Website Support page.

Will moving my web content disrupt any links for accreditation?

There is a chance that links may be disrupted when website content is moved, but we use tools that can check for broken and missing links. However, if you notice a link that is not working, you may report it through the forms on the Health Sciences Website Support page.

When will my site be updated?

All content migration and updates will be communicated through the Health Sciences internal communication channels such as Health Sciences Weekly and school e-newsletters. If your site requires more work than being moved into the new Umbraco CMS and will undergo significant content updates, you will be notified by direct email in advance. As a reminder, websites are fluid and evolving communication tools and will be updated when necessary to meet current university standards.

What if my Find-a-Doc profile is wrong?

The WVU Medicine Marketing team manages content for the Find-A-Doc tool. You can request updates to clinical provider profiles using the submission form on CONNECT (user password required.)

How do I know if my site is part of the Health Sciences sites versus the WVU Medicine family of sites?

The Health Sciences Communications – Digital team maintains the academic websites associated with the five health schools – Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health – and the Health Sciences Office of Research and Graduate Education. If your site includes @wvu.org in the URL, it likely falls under the Health Sciences umbrella of academic sites. WVU Medicine sites typically use @wvumedicine.org in the URL. If you are unsure, you may submit a request through the forms on the Health Sciences Website Support page.

Will sites stop working during the process of moving or updating content?

There will be a temporary downtime while sites are migrated to the new Umbraco CMS. There should be minimal disruption, but if you notice that your site isn’t working properly after a scheduled migration, you may submit a request through the forms on the Health Sciences Website Support page.
