Creating Content for Your Websites & Directory Profiles

About Umbraco - Our Content Management System

Umbraco is the service we use to host all of the Health Sciences websites. It is an external service with code and content fully managed by the WVU Health Sciences Communications and Marketing Digital Team.

Your Role in Using Umbraco

As the landscape for how information is used and discovered across the web continues to change, the systems we use to build and relay information to audiences continues to become more complex. The Health Sciences Communications and Marketing Digital Team manages the design, development and updates for all content across Health Sciences websites. Our websites follow WVU’s brand visual identity and website standards, and content has been optimized for digital best practices and for AI search. We can work with you to create content that meets those standards and requirements.

Our Health Sciences school communications teams, along with faculty and staff, are still responsible for developing the content for their websites. Content updates can be submitted using the forms on the Website Support page.

Updating Health Sciences Faculty & Staff Directory Profiles

The profiles for all employees at the Health Sciences campus are maintained through our Health Sciences Directory. These profiles are fed into our websites in a number of ways. Because of this, it is important to keep this information as up to date as possible. This information also must meet the same content standards as the information on our websites.

The Importance of Content Structure

Websites and profile visitors give you less than a second to make a first impression. Poorly structured content can confuse and frustrate people and lead them to leave your website before they find what they might be looking for.

How AI and SEO Are Changing Content Structure

People now receive information from your website through search engines and AI tools quickly and easily. Having poorly structured information on your website can cause AI and other search tools to scrape content into a search query that may not accurately represent your program. Poor content structure can also cause your site pages to rank lower in search compared to your competitors.
