Summer Camp

Summer Institute is fantastic! It's summer camp with a HSTA twist. Incoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors attend different institutes at colleges and universities across the state.

Freshmen explore variety of STEM+M experiences introducing students to HSTA and community-based research. Sophomores are immersed in a focused experience (i.e. forensics, coding, engineering) where they emphasize skills that can be used to develop community-based research projects. Junior camp is a NIH SEPA funded experience where students are engrossed in an in-depth study of a specific subject related to health (i.e. pathology, anatomy, sociology, public health). And seniors experience a three week camp preparing them for college and increasing math foundation skills. 

At Summer Institute, you'll spend a week (or three, if you're a senior) taking classes, attending workshops, going on field trips, making friends, and having fun. You'll find out what it's like to live on a college campus. You'll learn skills you need for college. You'll get to know HSTA students from other parts of the state, and you'll spend one-on-one time with HSTA teachers, field site coordinators (FSCs), faculty, staff, and mentors. 

Every HSTA student must attend at least two Summer Institutes to graduate from the program. The camps are free, and transportation to and from camp is provided.
