HSTA Shout Outs

The goal of HSTA's Field Site Coordinators & teachers  is to help students overcome any barriers that stand in their way. We created this page to showcase the students who have gone beyond what was expected, and have accomplished more than what  was thought possible. We celebrate  these students  and want them to know how proud  HSTA is of them!!

Kanawha HSTA Club

Lexi & Miranda Harper
Lexi and Miranda Harper once again making us #hstaproud. Both are HSTA students under teacher Tara Veazey at Riverside High School, each submitted a science fair project to the National STEM Challenge. They both won a Championship placement and will present in Washington DC to our nation’s leaders. They are the only two accepted from WV and will represent Riverside High Sch

Thank you to McDowell HSTA graduate, Cassandra Burkett for continuing to be there for students through this nationwide COVID-19 pandemic. For parents attempting homeschooling for the very first time, many have found a new appreciation for what all teachers and staff do every day. We are proud of you and all that you have accomplished. Cassie is a 2005 graduate of MVHS HSTA, a 5th-grade teacher at Kimball Elementary School and McDowell County HSTA teacher for 11 years. #hstastrong #hstaproud

Eastern Panhandle HSTA

Andrew is a HSTA student at Washington High School in the Eastern Panhandle

I wanted to share Andrew Russ Stone's achievements at the Regional Science Fair yesterday. His project, Mealworms, and Styrofoam won first place in the Earth and Environmental Science category. He will be competing in the State Science Fair on March 6th.  He also won the following special awards: the RICOH Sustainable Development Award, the United States Airforce Award, and the Naval Science Award.

The judges also awarded him with a Grand Prize, recognizing him as one of the top two best projects in the fair. He will be attending the International Science and Engineering Fair as a finalist representing the Eastern Panhandle in Dallas, Texas in May.

Raleigh HSTA

Kanawha HSTA


Meet Maria, a HSTA Senior at George Washington High School. In addition to providing great leadership to her HSTA club members, Maria won both the Sara Spencer and Stan Hostler essay competition for the Kanawha region. Congratulations Maria!
