Enhance your teaching skills while earning credentials

In partnership with the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE), West Virginia University is offering all instructors, including adjuncts and GTAs, the opportunity to pursue a Certificate in Effective College Instruction at no cost. This is the only college teaching credential endorsed by the American Council on Education.

Four courses that are focused on learning and implementing evidence-based teaching practices are offered during an academic year. All courses are cohort-based and delivered online.

The following courses are being offered during the spring and summer 2023 semesters:

• Spring 2023:
  • Creating an Inclusive and Supportive Learning Environment (January 23– March 12; pending the acquisition of funding)
  • Inspiring Inquiry and Preparing Lifelong Learners in Your Online Course (January 23–March 5)
  • Promoting Active Learning Online (January 23–March 5)
• Summer 2023:
  • Designing Learner-Centered and Equitable Courses (Modality Independent)

You have the option of completing as many (or few) of these courses as you prefer (only one per semester) and receiving a micro-credential at the end of each. If you choose to complete a total of four courses, you will receive a teaching certificate at the end that is endorsed by the American Council on Education. If you have already earned the ACUE Effective Teaching Practices certificate, you can complete three courses to earn an Advanced Certificate in Effective College Instruction.

The deadline to register for the spring 2023 courses is Jan. 5 at 5 p.m. Space is limited.
