Parking enforcement and permit processes updated

WVU Health Sciences is reminding faculty, staff and students of updated guidance by WVU Parking Management and J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Security Management.

Areas 80 and 84
Due to several major construction projects at the WVU Health Sciences Center, parking in Areas 80, 84, and surrounding areas is extremely limited. Please be advised that the special Area 80 Parking review program for clinical faculty has officially ended. Area 80 parking is restricted to current permit holders and is experiencing overdemand at this time. As we work on a solution, the following alternative processes may be useful:

  • Contact WVU Parking office at 304-293-5502 or transportation@mail.wvu.edu and inquire about other nearby lots that may have permits available for purchase.
  • Contact J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital Parking at WVUHparking@wvumedicine.org or visit the security office on the 4th floor of Ruby Memorial to learn about the procedures for parking in one of the WVU Medicine Employee lots.

We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and are actively pursuing multiple solutions to this challenging situation.

New License Plate Recognition (LPR) Update Coming Soon
WVU’s Parking Management Office will be announcing updates to the License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology enforcement, which uses cameras on patrol vehicles to scan license plates and verify a valid permit or paid short-term parking. All permit holders must ensure their license plate information is accurate in the Parking Portal to comply with updated enforcement procedures. Please review the prior announcement for additional information.

Gameday parking and access to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital
Home football games disrupt normal parking and driving patterns on the Morgantown WVU Health Sciences campus for healthcare providers, staff, patients and visitors. Specific details about parking areas that are impacted are distributed each week ahead of home games. Please note:

  • Parking passes are available for those who will be working on game day, and individuals should check with their immediate supervisor.
  • The WVU Medicine employee shuttle service will be available on game days.
  • J.W. Ruby Memorial and Children’s Hospital will maintain emergency access for emergency vehicles before, during, and after the game.
  • The PRT station will maintain a separate entrance/exit path for staff to avoid mixing with students/fans before and after the game.
  • Employees with questions can send emails to WVUHParking@wvumedicine.org, call 304-598-4029, or stop by the Security Office (Room 4C51, Ruby).

New License Plate Recognition (LPR) Enforcement
All permit holders must ensure their license plate information is accurate in the Parking Portal by Monday, Sept. 1, to comply with updated enforcement procedures.

The Parking Management team has implemented License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology, which uses cameras on patrol vehicles to scan license plates and verify a valid permit or paid short-term parking.

This system requires:

  • Accurate license plate information on file.
  • License plates clearly visible from the parking lot aisle.

Parking direction rules:

  • Vehicles with only a rear license plate must park head-in so the plate is visible. Do not back into or pull through parking spaces.
  • Vehicles with both front and rear plates may back in or pull through unless signage indicates otherwise.
  • Permit holders must still display their mirror-hanging permit as usual.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2, citations may be issued for obstructed license plates.

The LPR system integrates with ParkMobile and campus pay stations. Drivers paying for short-term parking will now enter their license plate number instead of a space number.

For questions, contact the Parking Management Office at 304-293-5502.

Area 80 Permit Process for New Clinical Faculty
Due to several major construction projects at the WVU Health Sciences Center, parking in Area 80 and surrounding areas is extremely limited.

New WVU/UHA clinical faculty requesting to purchase an Area 80 parking permit should email HSCparkingreview@hsc.wvu.edu. Those requesting permits will receive a special approval form to complete and return to the same email address. Once reviewed, individuals will receive notification of the next steps.

This process is only for WVU/UHA clinical faculty. Current faculty with Area 80 permits do not need to use the special approval form and will follow the usual automatic renewal process. Please note:

  1. An Area 80 permit does not guarantee a parking space at your preferred time.

  1. An Area 80 permit does not allow parking in other adjacent lots.

  1. If no spaces are available and you are also a WVU Medicine employee, you may follow WVU Medicine parking guidelines for alternative locations.

For questions, contact the Parking Management Office at 304-293-5502.
