Improving Access to Care
The WVU School of Nursing’s Faith Community Nursing initiative celebrated its first telehealth visit on April 25 in McDowell County, providing mental health services to a rural resident who would have otherwise been unable to access the specialty care.
"This milestone serves as a wonderful example of how the School of Nursing, partnering in a reciprocal fashion with nurses, community stakeholders and community members across the state, is serving to fulfill our land grant mission."

—Dr. Angel Smothers
Associate Dean for Community Engagement

Nurses Month and Beyond

I hope you all have had an opportunity to engage with the American Nurses Association's weekly focus areas during Nurses Month. The last week's theme, "Community Engagement," is a topic with which the WVU School of Nursing is certainly familiar.

Whether in Beckley, Bridgeport, Charleston, Keyser or Morgantown, our faculty, students and staff make positive and lasting impacts on their communities through health fairs, volunteer efforts and more.

As we come to the conclusion of National Nurses Month, I encourage you all to remember each of the ANA's weekly themes in your daily lives — self-care, recognition, professional development and community engagement — as we all pursue our passion and our purpose.

Let's Go,
Dean Hulsey

Week Four of National Nurses Month: Community Engagement

ANA works closely with federal and state leaders to ensure that nurses’ needs are always top of mind when drafting relevant legislation. But we don’t do it alone. Last year, more than 16,000 nurses and nursing advocates joined RNAction, sending over 60,000 letters to Congress. Add your voice and impact the future of all nurses! Visit the RNAction Center and YouTube for “Advocacy Quick Takes” – short videos that provide the information you need to act.
