Keyser Campus nursing students participate, educate at local health career fair

KEYSER, W. Va. — Four WVU School of Nursing students on the Keyser Campus recently participated in the WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital Health Careers Fair.

The fair, held March 20 at the Davis Conference Center at WVU Potomac State College, welcomed more than 70 Mineral and Allegany County high school students who are interested in learning more about various health careers.

The School of Nursing table focused on diabetes mellitus, including complications, nutritional management, and insulin administration. The students who participated, pictured above from left to right, are sophomore Gina Fulk, senior Brooklynn Rohrbaugh, junior Will Thorne, and junior Collin Salesky, all of whom are in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

A group of high school students at the event learn how to draw up "insulin" from a vial, as demonstrated by nursing student Will Thorne.

"I am so proud of the work these students did to get high schoolers engaged in the learning process and get them excited about the nursing profession and patient teaching," said Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair. "They took a day from their spring break to participate in this event, so that shows their commitment to paying it forward to others."
