Event Location: Blue Gate, WVU Coliseum
The WVU Office of Health Promotion and Wellness, in collaboration with the University Police Department, will host National Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Blue Gate entrance of the Coliseum. The community is invited to stop by between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. to safely dispose of unwanted medications.
“This is an opportunity for the campus community to get rid of medicines that may be in their houses, dorms, or apartments so that we can keep those medicines from becoming dangerous,” said University Police Capt. Sherry St. Clair.
The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness recently purchased a 38-gallon medication disposal kiosk. “With this medication disposal system, we can safely accept prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and liquid medication bottles less than four ounces,” said Dr. Tara Hulsey, vice president of Health Promotion and Wellness, WVU.
While the kiosk will be at the Coliseum on Saturday, the kiosk’s permanent location will be in the University Police Department lobby at 992 Elmer Prince Drive, Morgantown.
“Having the kiosk at the UPD will allow the community to dispose of unused medicines when it’s convenient,” said Amy Sidwell, program director of the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness. “UPD is open year-round, 24 hours a day with free visitor parking.
The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness and the University Police Department plan to host additional drug take-back events throughout the academic year.
