WVU Medicine received a report that a patient received a call from an individual identifying himself as working for WVU Medicine. On the caller ID, the patient’s phone number was displayed. He asked the patient to verify her name and address, and to provide a Social Security number to receive a gold card from WVU Medicine.
WVU Medicine does NOT issue gold cards to patients – this is a spoofing scam.
WVU Medicine is working with the appropriate authorities to address this report.
