CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Medical students in the Pediatric Interest Group (PIG) at the West Virginia University School of Medicine Charleston Campus held a Pediatrics Workshop this week.
Marissa Della-Giustina, President of the WVU Charleston Campus Pediatric Interest Group (PIG), organized the Pediatric Workshop for medical students.
Co-Directors Dr. Elizabeth Copenhaver and Dr. Susan Ayoubi and pediatric attending physician Dr. Chadd Mays led discussions in effectively treating pediatric and adolescent patients by shifting your approach based on the patient's developmental stage. They underscored the importance of building trust by getting to eye-level, offering choices to give them a sense of control, and providing confidential, non-judgmental space for older teens are core strategies.
The Pediatrics Interest Group at the WVU Charleston SoM Campus was created to meet the interests and needs of medical students who are interested in the field of pediatrics.
The group creates opportunities for the teaching, learning, and discussion of issues relating to pediatrics and promotes professional relationships between medical students, resident physicians, attending physicians, and pediatric staff at Charleston Area Medical Center’s Women and Children’s Hospital and pediatrics.
