Dental school graduates of 2022 show great interest in lifelong learning
72 DDS, DH and MS students graduated from WVU School of Dentistry
Class of 2022 hygienists, dentists and specialty providers from West Virginia University School of Dentistry capped off a successful journey through rigorous academic and clinical curriculums on the way to becoming excellent oral healthcare providers. A total of 72 students marked the completion of their respective degree programs at commencement activities held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Canady Creative Arts Center in Morgantown.

Doctor of dental surgery candidates begin their dental school career at WVU with a pledge of professionalism. The final sentence of the pledge includes a commitment to continued education. They recite “I shall dedicate myself to lifelong learning for the welfare of others.”
In Today’s RH, a practicing hygienist wrote about the importance of continued learning. “A lifelong learner benefits from the knowledge and skills, for example, possessed by the more experienced hygienists in your office. Gaining education doesn’t end outside of the classroom, and it will make life so much easier if you aim to learn something new whenever the opportunity presents itself.”
The graduates of the Class of 2022, collectively, showed great interest in lifelong learning.
Six dentists with a desire for lifelong learning earned master’s of science degrees specializing in orthodontics, prosthodontics and periodontics at WVU.
Of the 46 doctor of dental surgery graduates, 50% expressed interest or applied to a postdoctoral master’s or residency program.
Nearly a quarter, 23%, of the graduating hygienists indicated they have further interest in dental school, law school and master’s programs.
