Dental school reports positives from 2020

Amid a pandemic, school and clinics have successes

Even amid the chaos of a global pandemic, West Virginia University School of Dentistry can reflect on a number of positives in 2020.

Technology
The introduction of the Yomi placed the School of Dentistry in a unique position to offer robotic assisted implant surgery. 
Our students teamed up with the engineering school to design COVID-19 safety equipment for dental  professionals.

The School of Dentistry announced its Campaign for Facilities

Outreach
Veterans oral health day has become an annual event hosted by the dental school and partners. 

Scholarships
Orthodontics graduates supported the program through donations in honor of classmates
An orthodontist and his wife contributed to the success of students in a newly created scholarship.
Students benefited from donations to and investments in scholarship funds.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Student, Misbah Muzaffer, established a human rights group.
Our dental school showcased diverse cultures in a poster display.

DDS graduates received dozens of awards.

Patient resources
In an effort to keep patients from losing touch with their dentists or ignoring potential problems during the pandemic, WVU Dental Care began offering teledentistry as an option for appointments.

An online patient portal was launched called MyWVUDental. 

Research
Case Western Reserve and the dental school announced an oral cancer research project.

A number of news outlets and industry groups picked up our research regarding drinking water, chemicals and tooth decay
