Enhancing student well-being with support animals

Molly, an adorable Aussiedoodle, is playing a vital role at the West Virginia University School of Nursing Beckley Campus

Nursing students, who often face academic and clinical challenges, benefit greatly from therapy animals like Molly, who provide emotional support and help manage anxiety.

“We aim to support our students in every way possible by creating a more positive, relaxed, and accommodating environment,” said Hillary Parcell, Beckley Campus Chair and Clinical Education Associate Professor. “Having a therapy dog like Molly can greatly contribute to the well-being and academic success of our nursing students.”

Known for her love of herding goats, riding on boats, and spending time with people, Molly recently celebrated her 4th birthday and completed her training through the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program on May 13, 2024.
