Faculty from WVU dental school present at state oral health summit

WV Oral Health Coalition LogoFive West Virginia University School of Dentistry faculty members will be guest presenters at West Virginia Oral Health Coalition’s 2nd Annual West Virginia Oral Health Summit scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2022 at Stonewall Resort State Park in Roanoke, WV.

The WVOHC was created to help raise the quality of oral health for state residents.

Dental, nursing and social work professionals are invited to the day-long presentations and breakout sessions where Rear Admiral Dr. Timothy L. Ricks, Chief Professional Officer for the Dental Category of the U.S. Public Health Service, is the keynote speaker.

Amy Funk, chair of the WVU dental school department of dental hygiene, will speak about the Community Dental Health Coordinator program.

Dr. Gina Graziani, chair of the department of pediatric dentistry at the WVU dental school, will conduct a session about caries prevention in young children.

Dr. Jerry Bouquot, WVU dental school clinical professor and oral and maxillofacial pathologist, will present The Abused Mouth: A Stroll through the Oral Effects of Drugs.

Dr. Foti Panagakos, associate dean for research and postdoctoral affairs at WVU dental school, will talk about adult dental benefits for Medicaid patients.

Suann Gaydos, director of the dental school’s certified tobacco treatment training program, will present information on tobacco cessation.

The Oral Health Summit is sponsored by Marshall University School of Medicine and the WV Oral Health Coalition with support from WV Rural Health Association, WVU School of Dentistry, the Claude Washington Benedum Foundation and Marshall Health Department of Dentistry and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery.
