Faculty, staff recognized for significant contributions to WVU Health Sciences

West Virginia University Health Sciences is recognizing twelve individuals and one team with Chancellor’s Awards, as well as two individuals with WISH (Women in Science & Health) Awards, for their significant contributions to its mission.

A ceremony to honor the 2022 award winners will be held Wednesday, August 31 at 4 p.m. in Pylons Lobby and via YouTube.

Each year, the Chancellor’s Awards and WISH Awards honor faculty and staff who have been recognized by their peers for their outstanding accomplishments. Winners were nominated by their peers and selected by their respective achievement award committees.

 

Faculty Awards

Gauri Pawar, MD, FAAN, School of Medicine, Department of Neurology
Master Clinician Award
This award recognizes faculty for sustained outstanding achievement in providing quality patient-centered care with compassion, integrity and honesty.

Peter Mathers, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine
Outstanding Achievement in Local or Regional Service
This award recognizes faculty for outstanding achievement in advancing the service mission of WVU Health Sciences at the local or regional level.

James Mahoney III, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry and Department of Neuroscience
Outstanding Achievement in Research
This award recognizes faculty for outstanding achievements in research, scholarship or creative activities.

Christa Lilly, PhD, MS, School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics
Academic Scholar Award
This award recognizes faculty who exemplify the model of an academic scholar through outstanding accomplishments in teaching and scholarly activities.

Michael Gunther, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine
Outstanding Achievement in Teaching
This award recognizes faculty for outstanding achievement in advancing the teaching mission of WVU Health Sciences.

Heather Henderson, EdD, School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy, Management, and Leadership
Mentor Award
This award recognizes faculty who have provided outstanding mentorship to students or to faculty colleagues within WVU Health Sciences.
