Film screening to celebrate individuals with disabilities

The community is invited to the Mountainlair and Health Sciences Center at West Virginia University on March 5 and 6 to view a series of short films celebrating individuals with disabilities and their talents.

Submissions from the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge will be screened Tuesday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Gluck Theater and Wednesday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the William A. Neal Museum of the Health Sciences. Films will be played on a rolling basis, allowing individuals to stop by as time allows. Viewing time for each film is approximately five minutes.

The short films focus on showcasing the stories, artistic expressions and experiences of people with disabilities. They range from romantic comedies to psychological thrillers and help create a better understanding of the capabilities and artistry of people with disabilities in the film industry.

The Easterseals Disability Film Challenge gives filmmakers—with and without disabilities—the opportunity to collaborate to tell unique stories that showcase disability in its many forms. The film challenge is a five day filmmaking contest, open to all, that provides a platform for new voices in the entertainment industry. Each year, aspiring storytellers are prompted to creatively write, produce and complete a short film. Registration is now open for the 2024 Film Challenge.
