GHHS Solidarity Week slated for Feb. 12 through Feb. 16
The West Virginia University chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society recently announced their participation in celebrating the national Gold Humanism Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care.
All events will take place noon each day. Topics range during the week but all highlight the ongoing humanistic effect healthcare providers have in their communities and with their patients.
The full schedule is as follows:
- Monday, Feb. 12 – Ice cream social in the Pylons
- Tuesday, Feb. 13 – “Compassionate Healthcare” with James Mears, M.D. in room 1909
- Wednesday, Feb. 14 – “Utilizing Humanism to Navigate Difficult Situations” with Emma Somers, M.D. in room 1909
- Thursday, Feb. 15 – “Healthcare is Human: Authentic Storytelling Approaches from West Virginia” with Ryan McCarthy, M.D. and Renee Nicholson, MFA in room 1909
- Friday, Feb. 16 – “A Physician’s Love Letter to Working in Appalachia” with Jenna Sizemore, M.D. in room 1905
Attendance is open to all audiences both in person and by Zoom. RSVP is encouraged and the Zoom link can be found with this form.
The national Gold Humanism Honor Society office established National Solidarity Day for Compassionate Care in 2011 to highlight the nation-wide movement promoting provider-patient relationships based on caring, personalization and mutual respect. Many chapters have since expanded the day to a week-long celebration.
