Health administration honor society inducts WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital and Reynolds Memorial Hospital president and CEO

Douglass Harrison, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital and Reynolds Memorial Hospital, has been inducted into Upsilon Phi Delta, an honor society that recognizes, rewards and encourages academic excellence in the study of healthcare management and policy.

Sponsored by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), the West Virginia University chapter was chartered and is led by the Master of Health Administration program in the School of Public Health.

Upsilon Phi Delta membership is open to students, faculty, healthcare executives and administrators, and those who contribute to the healthcare administration profession. Students must have achieved standards of academic excellence and community service during their studies. Healthcare leaders and others may be inducted into the organization in honor of their significant and long-standing commitment and contributions to the healthcare administration profession, to students and/or to the communities they serve.

“Doug has been a vocal advocate for WVU’s MHA program,” said Erik Carlton, DrPH, senior associate dean for academic and student affairs in the School of Public Health and president of the West Virginia chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives. “He has been there for us every step of the way, helping establish a program that would build a bench of the best and brightest future healthcare leaders for WVU Medicine and all of West Virginia. I could not be more thrilled to offer him this special honor in recognition for his service to our students, our school and the state.”

Harrison was inducted by Carlton and Anna Sellaro, a Master of Health Administration student, president of WVU’s Health Administration Student Association and a 2021 Upsilon Phi Delta inductee.

“I wanted to honor Doug Harrison because he is an ongoing support to our WVU Master of Health Administration program, and he has had a huge impact on our students,” said France Weaver, PhD, program director. “I look forward to continue working with Doug to prepare the next generation of health administrators in West Virginia and Appalachia.”
