July 2022: Employee Life Fair
New employees at West Virginia University’s Health Sciences Campus in Morgantown, including J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and other clinical facilities associated with WVU Medicine, are invited to learn more about the community at an upcoming Employee Life Fair. The free event will take place Wednesday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Health Sciences Center Memorial Gardens green space located outside to the left of the Pylons entrance. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be in the Pylons Lobby.
Hosted the by the Health Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Welcome and Inclusion Subcommittee, the event is designed to welcome all new WVU Health Sciences and WVU Medicine employees and introduce them to the diverse organizations and businesses within the WVU and Morgantown communities.
More than 20 vendors are scheduled to attend, including the Center for Community Engagement, Monongalia County Health Department, Morgantown Public Library, Visit Mountaineer Country Convention and Visitors' Bureau, and WVU Extension.

WVU research finds LGBTQ people face barriers to health care, especially in rural areas
LGBTQ people may face unique barriers to health care, according to a new study by Zachary Ramsey, doctoral candidate in the WVU School of Public Health. By interviewing researchers and physicians, Ramsey identified four pressing health issues that sexual and gender minorities face: discrimination, heteronormativity, health care system barriers and the interconnectedness of physical, mental and social health.

Transitional Care Course
The WVU School of Nursing will offer Transitional Care for Faith Community Nurses, an online course that is designed to provide faith community nurses with background knowledge on the needs of community members who are in the process of transitioning in care. The course, scheduled for Aug. 1-26, includes information about transitional care from the hospital to home, from the hospital to the nursing home, and from the hospital to home with hospice care.
West Virginia Area Health Education Centers Rural Community Health Scholars Program
Rural Community Health Scholars is a program designed to enhance students’ abilities to create change and reshape the status quo for health care in their communities. Throughout this program, participants engage in clinical, didactic and community-based activities in rural and underserved areas of the state to build their skill set and positively impact the lives of West Virginians.
