Informatic experts to speak at Public Health Grand Rounds

The WVU School of Public Health's Master of Health Administration program will host an Administrative Grand Rounds on Friday, October 20, from noon to 1 p.m. ET via Zoom.
Included among the panelists will be Pradeep S. B. Podila, PhD, and Lee A. Pyles, MD. Drs. Podila and Pyles will discuss how informatics can be utilized to effectively address public health problems, ultimately resulting in better health outcomes within communities. Informatics is the science of how to use data, information and knowledge to improve human health and the delivery of health care services.
Sarah Woodrum, DrPH, senior associate dean and assistant professor in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Leadership, will moderate the panel.

As an independent chartered chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the West Virginia Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives, is authorized to award a total of 1.0 hours of ACHE Qualified Education credits toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. About the Speakers
Dr. Podila is an informatics health scientist with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention in the Health Promotion Office of Informatics and Information Resource management, Office of the Director. In this role, Dr. Podila serves as a Technical Services Consultant providing scientific advice and consultation to the various operating units within the Center. His focus is on public health informatics solutions to critical problems that require creating new approaches, business re-engineering, data and IT modernization, advancing data standards and interoperability.
Dr. Pyles is professor and vice chair for research in the Department of Pediatrics in WVU’s School of Medicine. He also serves as the pediatric medical director for health informatics. He is board certified in clinical informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine and in pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Pyles serves on a number of national committees and professional societies and has held positions on various medical journal editorial boards.
