Lincoln Middle School Basketball  teams hold a fundraiser for the Norma Mae Huggins Endowment Fund

Morgantown, W.Va. - Lincoln Middle School Girls Basketball team hosted an event on January 28, 2020, benefiting Cancer Research at the WVU Cancer Institute. Funds were raised with a combination of donations, auctions, and 50/50 raffles. This is the second time they have held this fundraiser and are hoping to make it an annual event.

”We wanted to raise money for research to help people who have cancer." said team coach Jessica Logar. The team captains Ashland Riley, Alexis Williams, and Brooklyn Davisson made the trip to make the presentation where they gave a check for $1000 to representatives of the Cancer Clinical Research Unit Team. Team members were Anne Schnatterly, Director, Cancer Clinical Research Unit; Laila Wallace, OnCore Database Coordinator; Yvonne Shaw, Quality Control Supervisor; Katie Clark, Administrative Assistant.

Anne Schnatterly gratefully received the check from the team captains noting their “donations help fund staff and patient resources in our unit to help lead clinical research and discover better treatments for our cancer patients.”

Financial support for the cancer clinical research program comes from the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment which supports clinical cancer research, targeting many types of the disease that are common among residents of the Mountain State, which has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the nation. Private giving at WVU health sciences demonstrates unwavering Mountaineer spirit, passion, loyalty, and a commitment to improving the lives of others and make this program possible. Join us in making a tremendous impact on tomorrow. You can give to the Norma Mae Huggins Endowment and help to continue to offer our patients and families from West Virginia and surrounding areas the same new treatment options found in larger cancer centers across the country. These donations directly help our patients receive the best possible patient care close to home. You can make an impact.
