NATA updates emergency action plans in sport

Samantha Scarneo-Miller, Ph.D., ATC, will participate in a virtual media briefing held by The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) on Tuesday, July 23 from 3 – 4 p.m. ET. During the briefing, she will address the importance of Emergency Action Plans and discuss groundbreaking updates from the recently published Position Statement: Emergency Action Plan Development and Implementation in Sport.

Scarneo-Miller, assistant professor of Athletic Training, was recently tapped by the NATA to update the organization’s 22-year-old position statement. Her research sets in motion new priorities for responding to catastrophic injuries.

“This new position statement will help advance emergency preparedness in all sport settings, ultimately saving more lives,” Scarneo-Miller said. “This panel will discuss the various processes for the position statement, the use of these recommendations in clinical practice and will also highlight the importance of an emergency action plan based on a recent case.”

The panel consists of an interdisciplinary group of leading health care experts who will discuss the updated guidelines, discuss recent case history successes and provide instructions for how institutions can prepare in advance of an emergency.
