Online course offers nurses advanced knowledge and skill for providing spiritual care

The Advanced Spiritual Care course, offered by the West Virginia University School of Nursing, is designed to provide nurses with advanced knowledge and skill when providing spiritual care to their patients.

The four-week, all-online course will run from May 23 through June 17. The course has been approved for 20 hours of nursing continuing professional development.

“This course will provide nurses with education on spiritual care and provide them with state and national resources to support them in the care they provide,” said Angel Smothers, a clinical associate professor at the WVU School of Nursing.

The Advanced Spiritual Care course offers four learning modules that include a mixture of articles, online resources, PowerPoint notes and recorded presentations. Students will interact with each other and faculty using the online discussion area. There will also be an optional live Zoom meeting the last week of the course.
