School of Medicine graduate named Flight Surgeon of the Year

The Society of United States Air Force Flight Surgeons recently named Captain Paul A. DeJulio the 2015 Malcolm C. Grow Flight Surgeon of the Year in honor of his dedicated military service, unwavering commitment to mission accomplishment and high level of enthusiasm for Aerospace Medicine.

Captain DeJulio graduated from the WVU School of Medicine in 2012. During medical school, he was the recipient of the F. Edward Hébert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship. After completing an internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, he was ordered to active duty by the United States Air Force.

For the last three years he has served as a Flight Surgeon at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. In this role, he has provided medical care for pilots, aircrew and their families. He has also flown in numerous military aircraft, including the F-16 Fighting Falcon, in order to observe and advise aviators on aeromedical issues. In 2014, he deployed to the Middle East for six months in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Captain DeJulio attributes this achievement to his training at the School of Medicine and is proud to be a Mountaineer!
