Spring reunion to welcome School of Dentistry alumni back to WVU

The West Virginia University School of Dentistry will welcome alumni back to Morgantown April 25 for its annual spring reunion and continuing education course. Hosted by the school’s Alumni Association at Morgantown Marriott Waterfront Place, the gatherings are an opportunity for alumni to celebrate and reconnect with their fellow Mountaineers and for all dental professionals to improve patient care.

Dr. Clarence C. and Maxine Davis Cottrill Endowed Lecture

This year’s Dr. Clarence C. and Maxine Davis Cottrill Endowed Lecture, titled “Actions and Algorithms for Medical Emergencies 2025: How to Save a Life (Including Your Own),” will be presented by Dr. Daniel Pompa. The session will begin at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 4:30 p.m.

Registration may be completed online with credit card payment or by mailing a registration form along with a check payment by April 18.

Course Overview

A crisis situation can—and likely will—occur at some time in your practice. Many potential medical emergencies can be prevented. This course presents the essential knowledge and skills needed to handle a life-threatening medical crisis.

This course is recommended for the entire dental team.

About Dr. Pompa

Daniel Pompa, DDS, is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the International Congress of Oral

Implantologists. Dr. Pompa practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery for over 30 years in New York City and now lectures full-time. He has presented over 500 lectures nationally and internationally.

Alumni Awards

Honoring five award recipients and five- and ten-year class reunions from 1965 to 2020, the WVU School of Dentistry Alumni Association invites all alumni to enjoy an evening of food, music and dancing at this year’s spring reunion.

An invitation-only awards luncheon will recognize Distinguished Alumni Award recipients Dr. Bruce Cassis (’80, DDS), Dr. Lorena Surber (’90, DDS; ’72, Dental Hygiene), Dr. W. Craig Wilcox (’75, DDS) and Tiffany Summerlin (’08, Dental Hygiene); Achievement Award recipient Susan Jones, West Virginia Dental Association administrative assistant; and the 25th, 50th, 55th and 60th classes.

At the continuing education opportunity, a reception will be held at 6 p.m. in the Morgantown Marriott Waterfront Place ballroom, followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing at 8:30 p.m.

To register for the reunion reception, dinner and dance, contact Alumni Association Executive Director Cathy Boyce.

All alumni are also welcome to participate in the annual Alumni Association meeting to be held Thursday, April 24, at 9 p.m. in the WVU Health Sciences Center G119, following the Board of Governor’s meeting at 7 p.m.
