Statewide partnership provides Mental Health First Aid

mental health

The West Virginia Collegiate Initiative to Advance Healthy Campus Communities and WVU will sponsor a free two-day, online Mental Health First Aid training from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1 and 2. This two-part session is open to faculty, staff and students from WVCIA member institutions and partner organizations.

Mental Health First Aid is an international, evidence-based program that prepares participants to interact with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. Participants learn to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges with a five-step action plan.

Attendance in both sessions is required. Prior to meeting live, participants will receive instructions for completing two hours of pre-work. There are a limited number of seats available; registration will close when all seats are filled.

Once successfully registered, an email notification from mentalhealthfirstaid@mail.wvu.edu will include course instructions.
