Student Pharmacist Presents Lung Cancer Research at Prestigious Conference
In April, P3 student pharmacist Anna Lumadue from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, along with Assistant Professor Sabina Nduaguba from the Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, had the unique opportunity to present their research at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting.
The AACR Annual Meeting, held in San Diego, California, is the premier gathering for the cancer research community, bringing together scientists, clinicians, healthcare professionals, survivors, patients, and advocates to share the latest advancements in cancer science and medicine.
Lumadue and Dr. Nduaguba presented their poster, "Time to Lung Cancer Treatment in West Virginia and Patient Survival," which explored critical aspects of lung cancer treatment timelines and their impact on patient outcomes in West Virginia. This research is particularly significant given the state's high incidence of lung cancer and the challenges in accessing timely treatment.
Reflecting on the experience, Lumadue described attending the AACR Annual Meeting as a wonderful and enriching experience. She attended numerous sessions, engaging with leading experts and peers who share her passion for cancer research.
For a student pharmacist, presenting at such a prestigious conference is a remarkable achievement, highlighting the dedication and excellence of Lumadue and her mentor, Dr. Nduaguba. Their participation underscores the importance of collaborative research and the impact it can have on improving cancer treatment and patient survival.
