The lamps are different, but the Light is the same

The Light streams towards you from all things,
All people, all possible permutations of good, evil, thought, passion.

The lamps are different,
but the Light is the same.

One matter, one energy, one Light, one Light-mind,
Endlessly emanating all things.

One turning and burning diamond,
One, one, one.

Ground yourself, strip yourself down,

Stay there, until you see
You are gazing at the Light

“The lamps are different, but the Light is the same. One matter, one energy, one Light, one Light-mind, endlessly emanating all things.”

This quote is by the Sufi poet, Rumi, and it perfectly captures my growing perspective on health, peace, balance and growth of individuals, states, countries and continents.

I just returned from Israel, and there were so many historical and meaningful places to see. The Western Wall, the Stone Dome, Church of the Holy Sepulcher, Mount Olive and Temple Mount, to name a few.

A historical birthplace.

While each person may hold different philosophies and practices, many share deep belief. As Rumi said, "The lamps are different, but the Light is the same."

We look different on the outside, but inside, we are the same.

Whole as one individual and whole as all people.

Rumi goes on to say we are, "all one matter, one energy." Einstein reminds us that energy and matter are interchangeable.

We are all energy beings.

"One light, one Light-mind, endlessly emanating all things."

Rumi also speculated that everything and all things are made up of this one light.

Each of us. All of our world. Everything.

It struck me that we are always in a push and pull between our finite and infinite parts.

On one hand, we experience the life of a single human. This is the experience of being a separate lamp from all other lamps. An individual.

Who is born, matures, ages and then dies.

A finite experience. The finite experience of us.

On the other, Rumi reminds us that we are really made of eternal light. The light inside. Light as the energy of our world. Created by Light-mind and the foundation of all.

Never changing. Never aging. Never dying.

Our infinite source. The real us.

I agree with Rumi. We are really infinite beings having a finite experience.

The driving influence of our human experience is to focus on the different lamps. Based on differences and fear which separates.

Unfortunately, the fear that maintains separation causes us to want to control our lives, creating constant resistance to the natural unfolding of our life story.

This resistance is primarily responsible for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual suffering and illness, I believe.

The solution?

Trust and let go of resistance. Let your life unfold, like a great adventure.

You will always get to where you should be and the experience of transitioning from different to same is the transition from finite to infinite.

Dying from an individual and separate state, transformed to connected and whole.

This requires change. Change creates fear and resistance for many.

But it doesn’t have to do so.

So, if we want to heal, remember what Rumi told us 750 years ago.

We are looking at the light with the light's eyes. We are the source we seek.

We are the same light.
