Two veterans and WVU medical students named as Pat Tillman Foundation Scholars
Brentyn Jones and Jerry “Ted” Price, two students enrolled in the West Virginia University School of Medicine Medical Degree program, have been named as Pat Tillman Foundation Scholars and join 40 other military veterans, service members and spouses who aspire to make a positive difference in communities across the nation.
According to the Foundation, Tillman Scholars exhibit the values that Pat Tillman stood for, leadership, service, scholarship, and impact. Recipients receive a scholarship to offset academic expenses; introduction into a network of peers, mentors and industry leaders; and ongoing opportunities for leadership development.
Jones is a second-year medical student from Spokane, Washington who served as a Navy SEAL and Special Operations Combat Medic. He has aspirations of pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery with a focus on advancing operational military medicine and improving musculoskeletal care for service members and veterans.
“I’m incredibly honored to be selected as a Tillman Scholar. This opportunity allows me to continue service, this time through medicine, while connecting with other leaders who are driven to make a real difference. I’m excited to represent WVU and the veteran community in this next chapter,” said Jones.
Price served in the Army, becoming a Green Beret and serving as a Special Forces officer during his time. As the first-year medical student from Lynchburg, Virginia is set to join the rest of his cohort this fall in Morgantown, he identified urology as his desired specialty.
“I’m beyond honored to represent the Foundation and carry on the legacy of Pat Tillman. As a Tillman Scholar, I am able to connect with a community of service-driven leaders to make a difference through medicine while continuing to serve the veteran population,” he said.
