WVCTSI provides spring training, seminar sessions
The West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI) is hosting several upcoming training opportunities and seminar sessions this spring.
Workplace Boundaries
WVCTSI's Females Advancing Clinical and Translational Sciences group will host Leanna Laskey McGrath, executive coach and consultant, for a seminar and presentation titled “Setting Boundaries to Support a Healthy Work-Life Balance” on Tuesday, March 19, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Erma Byrd Biomedical Research Building room G01 on the WVU Health Sciences Campus and via Zoom. Register online.
Clinical Trials Training
WVCTSI hosts regular interactive group trainings to instruct attendees about all things clinical trials. Topics covered include clinical trial requirements, human subject research regulations, processes and systems related to clinical trial conduct, and the roles and responsibilities of all research team members. The next training will take place online Thursday, March 21, from 8:45 a.m. to noon. For more information and to learn how to participate in this training, contact WVCTSI Training Coordinator Mawia Haddad.
Experimental Design Series
WVCTSI's Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Core has developed a special interactive series on experimental design. Attendees will participate in case studies, group discussions and practical exercises on a wide variety of experimental design topics. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own research questions or study designs for discussion. This series is led by Tyler McGaughey, WVCTSI research imaging specialist. The first session in this series, titled “Fundamentals of Experimental Design,” will take place Thursday, March 21 at 4 p.m. via Zoom. Additional sessions are scheduled for April 11 and April 25. Mentorship Development Program
The WVCTSI Mentorship Development Program (MDP) offers workshops to develop and enhance mentoring relationships for faculty who are currently conducting clinical and translational research. The MDP program will also provide workshops geared toward mentees who are looking to enhance their skills to become a more effective mentee. The Spring 2024 series includes two levels of virtual programs designed to develop and enhance skills for both research mentors and mentees. Participation in Level 1 trainings is strongly encouraged prior to participating in Level 2 trainings. A complete schedule and registration information for all sessions can be found on the Mentorship Development Program webpage.
The Mentorship Development Program has also launched a seminar series. The third session, “Using Mentorship for Team Science Collaboration,” will take place Monday, March 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom. The seminar will be presented by Darshana Shah, professor of pathology at Marshall University. Register online.
ISCORE Resource Center Mentor Training
The ISCORE-RC is offering mentor workshops tailored to the clinical research profession. Throughout a series of virtual sessions, registered participants will learn about the impacts of mentoring, communicating effectively with mentees, aligning expectations and more. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to earn a micro-credential through West Virginia University at no charge. A micro-credential badge can be displayed on LinkedIn and other professional platforms.
The first two mentor training sessions, “The Impacts of Mentoring + Maintaining Effective Communication” and “Aligning Expectations,” will be held Thursday, March 28, and Thursday, April 25, respectively, from 3-4:30 p.m. Participants must attend session one in order to attend session two.
