WVU Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders seeks volunteers with Parkinson’s disease for paid study

The WVU Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders is seeking volunteers diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease to participate in a paid research study. The study, which begins in January 2024, will focus on how Clear Speech Intervention affects speech communication for people with the disease. Individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s who are noticing difficulty with their speech and communication are encouraged to apply.

The study will include 90-minute biweekly sessions for 12-15 weeks. These will include pre-test, therapy and post-test sessions. Volunteers will be compensated $50 for completing the pre-test visit(s), $50 for completing the Clear Speech Intervention visits and $50 for completing the post-test visit(s). Participants can earn up to $150 and will benefit from learning more about their speech and voice.

The study will take place in the WVU Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic at 375 Birch Street, Health Education Building, Morgantown, WV 26506, at a time that is convenient for you. During the study, participants will be asked to complete questionnaires and a variety of speaking tasks before, during and after Clear Speech intervention.

This study will be conducted by Anna Coy, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. If you are interested in hearing more about this study or are considering volunteering, please respond to the email address anna.gravelincoy@hsc.wvu.edu with your contact information.
