The Student Health Center is located at 390 Birch St.

With cold and flu season right around the corner, Student Health will host a series of flu shot clinics in the Student Recreation Center and Mountainlair throughout October and November, according to a Mountaineer Enews release.

Dr. Carmen Burrell, medical director of Student Health Services, said that the clinics are an accessible option for those in the campus community who are looking to get vaccinated.

“To make it convenient for the students, faculty and staff, we also have flu vaccine clinics located throughout campus in October and November,” she said. “They usually occur in October, which is when it's recommended for most people to receive their flu vaccine.”

Burrell said that as the weather gets colder, the flu will likely spread throughout campus.

“Every winter season we of course see a spike in flu as well as other respiratory illnesses, and we know that flu can have a big impact on the community with whether you can attend school and work and maintain your regular activities,” Burrell said.

Burrell recommends that all members of the campus community consider getting the flu vaccine.

“The larger [the] amount of people who have some immunity against flu, the less likely we are to see higher numbers circulating within the community which protects everyone,” she said.

For those who cannot attend the clinics, walk-in appointments are available at Student Health, located at 390 Birch St., Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:45 a.m.-4 p.m.

Student Health also offers care and assistance for those who contract the flu and is open every weekday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
