WVU Nursing alumna named Advanced Practice Provider of the Year

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Adrienne Duckworth, AOCNP, a graduate of the West Virginia University School of Nursing and director of the WVU Cancer Institute Survivorship Program, has been named the 2024 Advanced Practice Provider of the Year by the WVU Medicine Office of Advanced Practice Recruitment and Retention Committee.

Duckworth, a Grafton native, graduated from WVU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2012 and a Master of Science in Nursing in 2014. She credits her success to the mentorship and opportunities she received at WVU, where a Leadership Studies minor encouraged by her nursing advisor helped her build interdisciplinary connections.

“Being recognized as Advanced Practice Provider of the Year is a tremendous honor,” Duckworth said, “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication I’ve put forth over the past 10 years as part of a team making a difference every day. I feel privileged to serve the people of West Virginia and surrounding areas.”

Duckworth was nominated by Nicole Stout, a research assistant professor at the WVU Cancer Institute, who praised her leadership and dedication.

“Adrienne’s work in leading the Cancer Institute’s first-ever survivorship program is extraordinary,” Stout said, “Her ability to bridge clinical excellence with health outcomes research has elevated the quality of care and made an impact nationally.”

The Advanced Practice Provider of the Year award honors providers with four or more years of practice who have made a sustained, positive impact on their profession and organization. Duckworth’s work exemplifies this, combining evidence-based care with a commitment to advancing survivorship support.

Her recognition highlights the significant contributions of WVU School of Nursing alumni in healthcare leadership and the broader community.
