WVU’s Faith Community Nursing efforts receive $41,000 grant from Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation

WVU’s Faith Community Nursing efforts receive $41,000 grant from Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation

The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation (TGKVF) has awarded the WVU School of Nursing a $41,000 grant to help build nurse-led access to care points within West Virginia faith community settings.

“Partnering with TGKVF, a leading community engagement organization in West Virginia, will create valuable opportunities for faith community nurses and the communities they serve,” said Dr. Angel Smothers, Associate Dean for Community Engagement.

TGKVF is a philanthropic leader that helps donors, nonprofits, and other collaborative partners strengthen the community so the places and people they serve can thrive.

“The Foundation is proud to partner with the WVU School of Nursing in delivering much-needed healthcare to the communities we serve, made possible by the generous support of our donors,” said Megan Simpson, TGKVF Program Director.

Faith Community Nursing is an initiative led by the WVU School of Nursing to bring nurse-led access to care to the most rural reaches of West Virginia. The Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course teaches participants how to improve health in faith communities, as well as to provide quality care to members of different faith backgrounds in the clinical care setting.

Donations supporting the work of Faith Community Nurses are awarded via the WVU Foundation, the nonprofit organization that receives and administers private donations on behalf of the University.
