WVU School of Dentistry welcomes faculty provider in Restorative Dentistry

Zachary Greene, DMD, joined the West Virginia University School of Dentistry as an assistant professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, effective June 15. He will also serve as a general dentist at WVU Dental, the clinical practice component of the WVU School of Dentistry offering care from faculty, resident and student dentists.

Dr. Greene most recently practiced as a general dentist at the Jefferson County Department of Health and Birmingham Family Dental Services in Birmingham, Alabama, where he provided emergent and comprehensive care to pediatric and adult patients.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Greene join the Department of Restorative Dentistry family,” Dr. Lauren Godwin, interim associate dean for clinic affairs, said. “Dr. Greene brings a unique perspective and skill set, particularly with this recent master’s degree in dental materials, that will really be a wonderful addition for our patients and students.”

Greene is an associate member of the American Association of Endodontists and a member of the American Dental Association.

His recent research includes the study of various dental materials and their physical, mechanical and working properties. He has also participated in a variety of industry-funded experiments, including dental wear studies investigating the loss of tooth structure, crown-pull studies evaluating dental materials and shear bond strength studies.

Prior to serving patients in Birmingham, Greene practiced at Health Services, Inc. in Montgomery, Alabama, and Comprehensive Community Action Program in Cranston, Rhode Island, as part of the National Health Service Corps.

Greene recently completed the Master of Science in Dentistry program with an emphasis in Dental Biomaterials at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and a bachelor’s degree in biology with a concentration in biochemistry at East Tennessee State University.
