WVU School of Nursing hosts second Day Camp for high schoolers interested in nursing

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The West Virginia University School of Nursing hosted its second Day Camp on Saturday, June 1, 2024, inviting high school students to explore the possibility of nursing as a career.

During the free one-day event, students experienced what it’s like to be a nursing student by participating in an information session, a mock lecture and hands-on learning opportunities at the West Virginia Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) Center.

“This event offers a chance for high school students to experience a day in the life of a nursing student,” said Phillip Engelkemier, Recruitment Specialist for the School of Nursing. “We plan to host the event annually, so if you missed this year’s event, we invite you to join us next year or contact us to schedule a tour.”

Students met faculty members, including Dr. Brad Phillips, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, and Dr. Tina Antill Keener, Director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. They also asked questions to SON Student Ambassadors Kylie Dick and Bella Bock.

Attendees received some WVU School of Nursing gear, including a t-shirt, and lunch was provided.
