WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus sophomores participate in Pledge Ceremony

KEYSER, W. Va. — The West Virginia University School of Nursing Keyser Campus hosted its Pledge Ceremony Oct. 3 at Church McKee Arts Center for sophomore students formally entering their nursing education.

The nursing pledge is a commitment to demonstrate and respect the moral principles of the nursing profession. Specifically, the WVU School of Nursing Pledge speaks to integrity, compassion, ethics, patient advocacy and lifelong learning. During the ceremony, students receive their white coats to signify the beginning of their nursing experience.

For Cadence Carpenter, getting into the nursing program was a “dream come true.”

“I have wanted to be a nurse since high school,” Carpenter said. “The white coat ceremony made it surreal. Walking across that stage then being white coated by my professors felt fulfilling in a way indescribable. I thank God every day for this opportunity.”

Kailee Kelly said the experience was meaningful not only for her, but for her family as well.

“Being welcomed by the faculty and staff along with my peers was a great feeling and start to my journey in nursing school,” Kelly said. “I am looking forward to the next few years working towards becoming the best nurse I can be.”
