WVU School of Nursing Keyser graduates earn perfect pass rate on RN licensure exam

KEYSER, W. Va. — WVU School of Nursing Keyser Campus Class of 2023 graduates have earned a 100% first-time pass rate on their licensure exam.

The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is the standard assessment for entry level nursing practice. Students must successfully pass the computer adaptive test to become a licensed RN in the United States.

“I am so very proud of our graduates and our faculty, not only for their hard work, but also because this was the first cohort to take the next generation format of the exam,” said Dr. April Shapiro, Keyser Campus Chair. Launched in April 2023, the Next-Generation NCLEX (NGN) exam better measures nursing candidates’ clinical judgment and complex decision-making abilities in their care of patients.

While the Keyser Campus has always scored first-time pass rates above the state’s benchmark of 80%, this year marks the first year the entire class of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduates have passed the exam on their first attempt.

“This milestone is certainly a point of pride for the WVU School of Nursing,” said Dr. Tara Hulsey, Dean and E. Jane Martin Endowed Professor. “A perfect first-time pass rate is a testament to the expertise of our faculty and the dedication of our students.”

Earlier this year, the School of Nursing also announced Morgantown’s fast-track graduates earned a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX, and Family Nurse Practitioner graduates earned a 100% first-time pass rate on the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners certification.
