WVU study featured on Alzheimer Research Forum

Research study relating to the PDE4D enzyme by Han-Ting Zhang, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues is featured on Alzheimer Research Forum

In a new research study using gene knockout and knockdown techniques to specifically remove PDE4D from mice, Han-Ting Zhang, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues have identified various PDE4Ds that are important for memory but are not involved in nausea and vomiting. The initial findings show that PDE4D is an important enzyme in the mediation of memory, and that by manipulating this enzyme in the hippocampus of the brain, we can sustain therapeutic benefits such as memory enhancement without side effects such as nausea and vomiting. This study gives promise to using PDE4D as a target for memory-enhancing drugs, specifically in treating patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
