WVU to host virtual open house for tactical performance career options with a master’s degree from the School of Medicine

Students interested in a career in tactical performance are invited to a virtual open house to learn more about the WVU School of Medicine Exercise Physiology Master’s program on Thursday, November 9 at 6 p.m.

The open house will focus on the tactical performance physiology area of emphasis within the major, which equips students to address the overall health, fitness, and readiness of tactical personnel (e.g., military service members, firefighters, law enforcement officers).

Sessions are intended for college students planning to apply to the Master of Science in Exercise Physiology program. Sessions will also appeal to all college-level students interested in exploring the degrees or the admissions process for applying.

During the open house, students will have the opportunity to meet faculty and current students, take a virtual tour of the lab space, and learn about internship and career opportunities.

About the Area of Emphasis in Tactical Performance Physiology

The Master of Science (MS) program in exercise physiology prepares students for rewarding careers or for continued postgraduate education. Students choose from one of three areas of emphasis: clinical, research or tactical.

Students in the tactical performance physiology area of emphasis are trained to integrate exercise physiology, sports nutrition, and human physiological responses to physical and psychological stress, in order to increase readiness and resiliency and reduce economic burdens associated with poor physical fitness within tactical populations.

The area of emphasis features a low-residency format where students take online classes and are required to be on campus for only two in-person lab weeks. There are also on campus opportunities to work with WVU Army ROTC and Morgantown Fire Department.
