West Virginia University student Chyanne Reid, a sophomore from Martinsburg, West Virginia, is gaining valuable experience working in the Ramamurthy Lab in the School of Medicine’s Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine.
With an interest in studying biochemistry with a focus on visual sciences, Reid chose to attend WVU with research in mind. She began working in Ramamurthy’s lab during her freshman year and since participated in the Research Apprenticeship Program and Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, and she has been working closely with School of Medicine graduate research assistant Faezeh Moakedi since August 2021.
“I joined Dr. Ramamurthy’s lab to get a feel for research and I never thought I would like it as much as I do,” Reid said. “WVU offers a lot of amazing opportunities. I have been lucky enough to be in multiple programs that facilitate research.”
Reid has shared her work at WVU’s Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 Undergraduate Research Symposiums, and she placed first in the biological sciences category in the 2022 Undergraduate Research Symposium Poster Session.
“Research is an amazing experience to learn hands on about topics from class and how they affect us and our lives,” Reid said. “I plan to continue working in Dr. Ramamurthy’s lab and on my research to investigate the cause of vision loss.”
